Southwest Learning Center
Ms. Erica Williams, Learning Center Teacher
Ms. Pattie Parrish, Title I Paraprofessional
Learning Center is a place where strategic intervention is provided to students that are striving to benchmark at grade level or beyond.
How do we identify these students?
The Dibels Assessment is given three times a year to assess students' reading abilities from identifying the first sound of a word to reading paragraphs within a story. Grades K-4 are tested. Students scoring intensive (red) will come to Learning Center for extra academic assistance.
What resources are used?
Harcourt Strategic Intervention, Funnix, Focus, Project Read and hands-on activities are provided to the students depending on where their weaknesses are. The instruction provided to the student must be geared toward student's success.
How do we assess growth?
Growth is assessed through the use of progress monitoring every three weeks. Some students may be progress monitored every week if needed depending on the child's educational needs regarding the School Building Level Committee (SBLC).
