Southwest Elementary School-Wide Behavior Expectations

 1.  Be Safe     2.  Be Respectful     3.  Be Responsible



PBIS focuses on the use of positive intervention strategies that are respectful of the child.  The interventions that are developed are individualized and are based on an understanding of the child, the child's communication abilities and the unique situations of the child.  In addition, the intervention strategies that are developed are focused on helping the child gain access to new environments, have positive social interactions, develop friendships and learn new communication skills.
The following behavior expectations are unique to each specific area:


  • Raise your hand to speak
  • Have all materials for class (books, homework, etc.)
  • Keep desk/area clean and organized
  • No eating or chewing gum without permission
  • No sleeping in class
  • Be on time


  • Do not open stall doors when in use
  • Be cautious of wet floors
  • No hanging or climbing
  • Leave lights on
  • Flush the toilet after each use
  • Flush toilet tissue in toilet
  • Throw paper towels in the trash can
  • Be quick and quiet
  • Do not urinate on walls, floors, stalls or others
  • Use restroom at designated time


  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself
  • Say "please" and "thank you"
  • Push chairs under the table
  • Clean areas before leaving table
  • Keep cafeteria clean



  • No running
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself
  • Play fairly and follow directions of adults
  • Line up at the bell without talking
  • Throw trash in the trash can

  • Do not throw items off the bus
  • Keep entire body inside the bus
  • Remain seated when bus is moving
  • Remain seated while waiting for bus
  • Remain seated until bus comes to a complete stop
  • Do not run, push or shove others when in line
